Praja Patham’, a novel program intended to sort out bottlenecks in areas of development, was launched in Narsapur constituency of Andhra Pradesh by CM YS Rajashekar Reddy and MLA Vakiti Sunitha Reddy. In the month long ‘Praja Patham’, MLA Vakiti Sunitha Reddy accompanied by mandal level officers visited two or three panchayats a day, and resolved all the issues pertaining to eight specified areas like Drinking Water, Housing, Employment Assurance, Public Distribution System, Power Supply, Water Conservation, Indira Kranthi Patham (DWCRA etc.) and Irrigation works. For the first time, a government program (Praja Patham) was implemented without any ostentatious show like banners, cutouts and other paraphernalia. Objective of the Praja Patham was to ensure direct and frequent interaction of legislators with people and addressing their problems in a systematic manner. ‘Praja Patham’ was marked by Chief Minister Dr YS Rajashekar Reddy personally starting desiltation work in Himayatsagar Lake near Hyderabad. This desiltation activity provides employment for about 100 people under national Food for Work program. He also interacted with the labour on their wage earnings in general and in the current season. Later addressing a public meeting, the Chief Minister made clear his determination to ensure development of rural economy. MLA Vakiti Sunitha Reddy directly interacted with farmers and other villagers about the availability of works under FFW and other employment-generating schemes. In many villages, people were seen approaching MLA Vakiti Sunitha Reddy and the officials with a confidence that at last a mechanism to address their grievances was evolved. Issues like discrepancies in selection of beneficiaries in housing scheme, delayed payment under FFW, and so on were pointed out by villagers, and most of them were resolved by the officials then and there itself in the presence of all villagers and officials. Those issues which needed a direction from the district administration were referred to the district collectors so that they will be resolved at the district level review meeting.
